Returned to AT&T as a consultant providing
program and project management services within a PMO organization; responsible
for program management of major initiatives and end-to-end project management
of software development and integration projects affecting billing and sales
force compensation systems (Siebel CRM based).
As part of this assignment, worked extensively with outsourced
development teams (primarily offshore) on both small and large initiatives and
provided weekly executive reporting for three major Sales Automation programs
comprising over 60 active projects at any given time. Partnered with client
management to ensure that program and project-level risks were understood and
managed appropriately. Mentored
other PMs and provided guidance and direction as needed.
Served as a release manager on
an international datacenter consolidation project for a major pharmaceutical
client (Pfizer). Managed the retirement,
consolidation, upgrade, and deployment of hardware, software, and networks in a
validated environment, including LIMS and manufacturing control systems. Worked with technical personnel to prepare
detailed migration plans (including plans for the archiving of critical data);
performed risk analysis and developed mitigation strategies as necessary. Ensured compliance with 21
CFR Part 11 and other applicable regulations.

Played an active role in
the creation and implementation of AT&T's “Concept of One” software
integration process (SIP) for managing software development across AT&T
Labs. Provided several hundred
employees with training on the new process.
Directed the development efforts related to
the common test platform (CTP) system, a trunk testing and maintenance platform
designed to replace several other systems as part of the “Concept of One”
strategy as well as facilitate process automation to achieve significant
reductions in headcount. Provided matrix management of a staff of 60, including systems
engineers/business analysts, Unix/C++/JAVA/Oracle/WebLogic/XML/SQL developers,
testers, and network and systems administrators; scheduled, planned, and
coordinated their work. Partnered with workcenter management as well as the management of
interfacing platforms to streamline the transition from the replaced systems to
CTP.
Provided high-level project management of
the development aspects of AT&T’s ESPRIT platform, a
trunk maintenance and provisioning platform focused on edge switches. As part of this effort, directed a team of release managers to
ensure that their respective portions of the platform were delivered in a
timely, coordinated manner to meet the needs of several large customer groups.
Initially hired as a project management consultant through National Software Associates; functioned as project manager of the AT&T IMP platform from its inception through its integration with the ESPRIT project. In recognition of superior efforts and result, was offered a full-time staff position.
Coordinated the implementation of a system security audit process that affected several hundred servers within both lab and production environments.
Led Y2K initiatives for the SNOW-T and IMP platforms, operating in concert with the corporate Y2K office to ensure a smooth rollover. Tapped to assume project management of AT&T’s SNOW-T platform under emergency conditions; succeeded in maintaining continuity and building upon the prior project manager’s work.
Filled the role of release manager for numerous mission-critical network management systems, ensuring that upgrades were performed without disruption to both VPN and common-carrier networks.

Client: Northern Telecom – Orchestrated ISO 9000 process documentation
efforts for a multinational 600-person organization; supported the organization
in readying for its external certification audit by implementing process
improvements and providing expertise in training, education, and employee
preparedness.
Client: Glaxo Wellcome – Developed the documentation for a clean room air handling system; the simplified, pictorial document offered step-by-step instructions for routine procedures, alarm handling, and emergency shutdown to prevent pharmaceutical products from being contaminated in the event of an air handler failure.
Client: Glaxo Wellcome – Updated disaster recovery and data backup procedures, bringing them into compliance with FDA regulations for retention of manufacturing and distribution data.

Spearheaded ISO 9000
process development efforts, encompassing process authorship from the
functional mission level to individual work instructions, for a 160-person
programming group at IBM, facilitating external certification by ABS. Conducted numerous ISO 9000 internal audits within a 500-person
organization.
Devised plans and tracking mechanisms for regression, system, and functional verification testing. Managed development and test schedules for multiple programming features and releases, some concurrent. Offered software project management expertise throughout the mid-life development of IBM’s 4680 cash register system.
Provided technical and functional direction to a 40-person team comprised of both IBM and vendor development and test personnel to successfully develop a major programming release, despite last-minute changes to the release mechanism.
In collaboration with customer personnel, developed and implemented a rollout plan to migrate over 200 customer locations from competitive hardware and software within a three month period. As part of this effort managed the redesign of the customer’s in-store networks and store-to-mainframe communications links.
Recognized with a Blockbuster award for resolving a major crisis situation with a key customer by creating a unique user interface for the customer. Designed a migration tool that enabled a critical situation customer to roll out on schedule while preserving current-year revenue for IBM.
