Mainframe Access Infrastructure

Built a number of cross departmental teams to develop the methods, required to make mainframe data and applications available to the Web and WAS server community.   I contributed to the DealerConnect 2.0 architecture and generic ID security architecture teams addressing new capabilities of IHS, WAS, SiteMinder and other stackware technologies.   Some of our results:  

·       Defined the architecture, software stacks and application mechanisms to enable responsive and reliable calls to back end mainframe resources.  

·       Coordinated DealerCONNECT 1.0 implementation issues as their volumes climbed, allowing tens of thousands of users to operate reliably.

·       Provided backend mapping and monitoring capabilities for operations teams

·              Provided courseware and education for all apps development groups on best practices, use of tools and how to coordinate problem resolutions.

Network Communication Software

Managed the team providing level 3 and engineering support for a network of over 70,000 nodes, VTAM, NetView and other software for 26 LPARs.  Coordinated access for both internal and external Chrysler Mainframe customers.  Some achievements:

·       Saved over $50k /mo by coupling passticket technology with JAVA TN3270e to authenticate users instead of paying for (www.covisint.com) to do it.      

·              Built a simple secure TN3270e TCP/IP infrastructure for access to Chrysler systems from the public Internet, saving over $1 million /yr in BGN costs. .

·       AIAG executive of the year award for work on ANX (Automotive Network Exchange) in participation with executives from Ford, GM and 8 major suppliers.

Mainframe Communication Systems

Supervised level 3 communications support for 26 LPARs, VTAM, NetView and other software supporting over 70,000 terminals and 10,000 printers covering access for both internal and external Chrysler Mainframe customers.  Some achievements:

·       Developed a mainframe TN3270 over TCP/IP architecture for use internally to handle 70,000 coax and SNA devices.   

·       Eliminated 3225s, Bisync, reduced 3745s. Converted to APPN for mainframe internal traffic, saving over $2 million in hardware and data link costs.

Distributed Computing Department

·       Maintained and developed extensions to the “Control Program” used on 4 Phase systems in the manufacturing plants.  This was a TP monitor that mimicked Task Master running on IBM mainframes.  

·       Developed standardized UNIX directory structures to simplify support of over 400 mini computers across the U.S, Canada and Mexico.  Remnants of those structures are still in use today.

·       Developed and supported the TRIP (transaction routing insurance package) to enable reliable transmission of transactions between various dissimilar computing platforms.  IBM later adopted many of our concepts in their MQ series product.  

·       Led engineers at Norand to develop a hand held RF 3270 based terminal used in manufacturing and depot locations.
