The banking subsidiary for the $98 billion KeyCorp, a nationwide financial services holding company.

 

Senior Vice President, Data Center Services (2005–present)

 

Direct a staff of 130+ people, in multiple locations, supporting mainframe & AS400 hardware and operating systems, mainframe automation, mainframe storage, capacity planning for all platforms, monitoring and application code migration for over 3,000 mainframe and distributed servers, enterprise scheduling and mainframe operations including level one network and server monitoring.  Actively manage a budget of $35 million.  The mainframe environment consists of 9.400 MIPS, 310 TB of DASD and 250 CICS regions.

·            Technology leader for the successful and under budget project to locate site, build and migrate 950 physical servers and associated network infrastructure to a 40,000 sq.  Ft. raised floor data center.  Major migrations completed on schedule with no unplanned client impact, including 650 on Labor Day weekend 2009.

·            Mentored staff through transition to offshore application support

·            Excellent multi million dollar cost saving negotiation of mainframe hardware and system software agreements. 

·            Implemented an enterprise monitoring strategy, which includes the creation of the operations vision, the software architecture and web based application views.

·            Sponsor of IBM in Key Technologies vendor management program, which has been acknowledged by our vendors as one of the best in the industry.

·            Provided consultation to Executive Vice President of Technology Operations on a distributed computing outsourcing proposal.

·            Assisted a peer to evaluate a server consolidation proposal for 2,500 UNIX and Intel servers.

·            Recommended and successfully completed projects to replace Compuware development tools and CA utilities including CA7.

·            Lead the 2008 $30 million negotiation for an IBM Enterprise License Agreement (software)

·            Successfully implemented application discovery for CMDB creation after inheriting a two year failed effort

 

Senior Vice President, Enterprise Mainframe Services (2001–2005)

Direct a staff of 110+ people, in multiple locations, supporting mainframe, Tandem & AS400 hardware and operating systems, storage management, mainframe automation, mainframe and distributed application configuration management software, capacity planning, technology disaster recovery, enterprise scheduling and mainframe operations. 

·            Proposed a strategy and sponsored the project to improve the batch processing for over 1,000,000 jobs run monthly, improving SLA attainment over 10%. 

·            Managed infrastructure implementation, performance and tuning for Siebel DB2 database

·            Rescued project to implement disaster recovery for distributed computing platforms

·            Proposed a strategy to use LINUX to reduce server growth.

·            Implementation of the infrastructure for a corporate image archive storing reports, web based statements and check images, currently with 180TB of data.

·            Improved the quality of mainframe infrastructure changes and reduced the weekend maintenance window to support 7x24 banking capabilities.

·            Improved the infrastructure environment in both the distributed and mainframe data centers.

·            Responsible for project to implement application software configuration management for over 400 distributed computing production applications using Oracle, Unix, Win 2000 and Websphere.

·            Led the evaluation and implementation of DASD mirroring to reduce recovery time and data loss from a mainframe disaster.

Senior Vice President, Data Center Engineering  (1997 – 2001)

 

Implemented version control using the PVCS product for 83 distributed computing applications.

Implemented a mainframe capacity planning and reporting process allowing us to drive our computers to high utilization with excellent response times.

·            Sponsored a project to provide 7X24 availability for Key’s multiple nationwide call centers and Ecommerce banking mainframe applications by the use of IBM's SYSPLEX, CICSPlex, DB2 and VSAM RLS data sharing technologies.

·            Teamed with Lending Systems Development to recommend insourcing of the ALS consumer lending application, saving over $2 million annually.

·            Migrated the Cleveland data center consisting of 1,100 mainframe MIPS and 7 TB of DASD to Albany in 8 months.

·            Consolidated 2 separate sysplex images into a shared storage and JES environment to increase application flexibility and maximize resource utilization. 

·            Previous responsibilities also included management of the database group (DB2 and Oracle), and the Hogan Umbrella (banking system infrastructure) group.

Senior Consultant

 

Provided information technology consulting to clients with specialization in systems management.  Consulted with a top ten bank on the development of its Enterprise Systems Management Architecture.  Developed problem and change management procedures for a large regional bank.  Assisted in the development of proposals for various large consulting opportunities.

A $17 billion regional commercial bank holding company serving eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey

 

Senior Vice President, Technical Services & Computer Operations (1991-1995)

 

Directed staff of 70+ people supporting software and hardware for IBM, DEC and PC systems. 

Responsible for annual budget of $15 million.  Responsibilities included management of the corporate data center; disaster recovery and data security for all corporate computers; capacity planning for IBM, DEC and LAN's; support of 5000+ user e-mail system; LAN infrastructure architecture and management; extensive on-line environment with consistent response times under 1 second and prime shift availability averaging over 99.5%; negotiated hardware and software purchases, leases and associated contracts.  Presented capacity trends and major hardware recommendations to the CEO and executive management; managed help desk, end-user computing, PC installations and office automation software standards.

·            Managed project to install 350 branch LAN's using electronic software distribution in a timely and cost effective manner.

·            Integrated multiple applications on 400+ laptop PC's for a project to create a more efficient sales force.

·            Significantly improved cost effectiveness of corporate data center as measured by Real Decisions NOW index.

·            Managed successful disaster recovery during year-end close by transferring processing to contingency site.  Year-end close and simultaneous merger transactions were completed on schedule.

·            Corrected performance of PC help desk from below average user ratings with many complaints to above average ratings and minimal complaints.

 

Senior Vice President, Applications Development

Directed acquisition, development and maintenance of all application software.  Managed a staff of 120 programmers, analysts and client advocates.

·            Developed and implemented a proposal and lead the project for senior management which selected and implemented a multi-million dollar ATM system; which was the most significant software purchase in the bank's history.

·            Directed the consolidation of three $1 billion bank applications systems into one uniform set of applications.  Subsequently directed the addition of several other $1+ billion banks into the standard applications.
